Sharon Hodgson, Member of Parliament for Washington and Sunderland West, said:
“Climate change is one of the most serious and complex challenges facing the world today and with overwhelming scientific evidence showing the impact by humans to this phenomenon, it is important that we have a comprehensive and international strategy that helps address our impact on our planet’s climate to mitigate the serious environmental, social and economic consequences.
“With climate change showing the impact it can have on our society and on the lives of not only people here in the UK, but right across the world in developing countries, it is time that we acted now. That is why I support the calls for the UK Government to focus on the cutting of carbon pollution by our energy industry, a move away from oil, gas and coal supplies and investment into renewable energy sources such as wind, tidal and solar power.
“For change to happen it is important that we support active campaigners to make the case for the Government to tackle climate change and that is why I welcome The Environment Matters project which brings young people together to spread the vital message that we cannot sit by and let this go unaddressed any longer.”
